USD/THB Overview

USD/THB is the US dollar against the Thai baht, one of Southeast Asia's most actively traded currencies. The baht follows Bank of Thailand policy and inflation, tourism receipts and the current account, export demand and, unusually, gold: Thailand is a large gold trader and local buying and selling of the metal shows up in baht flows. Regional sentiment and the Chinese yuan matter too, as does the broad dollar and Federal Reserve policy. The Bank of Thailand watches the currency closely and smooths sharp moves. Liquidity is concentrated in Bangkok hours, and the pair is quoted to two or three decimals rather than the five used on the majors.
