USD/HKD is the US dollar against the Hong Kong dollar, which has been pegged to the greenback since 1983 under the Linked Exchange Rate System. Since 2005 the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has held the rate inside a convertibility band of 7.75 to 7.85, buying Hong Kong dollars at the weak side and selling them at the strong side, so the pair spends most of its time drifting within that corridor. The action lies in where it sits: the gap between Hong Kong and US interest rates pushes it toward one edge, and HKMA intervention at the band boundary drains or adds local liquidity. Volatility is low by design, which makes the pair a mean-reversion and carry instrument rather than a trend trade. On ForexR you can follow the live USD/HKD rate, use daily pivot points, gauge its narrow range with ATR and confirm direction on the multi-timeframe chart. When you are ready to trade it, compare regulated brokers that list the pair.
The Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the US dollar. The HKMA keeps the rate between 7.75 and 7.85 by intervening whenever the market reaches either edge of the band, so moves are measured in fractions of a percent.
Mostly the difference between Hong Kong (HIBOR) and US interest rates. When US rates are higher, carry trades push USD/HKD toward the weak side at 7.85; when local liquidity tightens the pair drifts back toward 7.75.
The Hong Kong session, roughly 01:00-09:00 UTC, when local money-market rates are set and HKMA operations take place.
