Zakat due on gold savings and jewellery by weight and purity, at the live gold price.
Once the pure gold you own reaches the nisab of 85 grams and you have held it for a full lunar year (haul), zakat of 2.5% of its value is due. Enter the weight and purity of your gold. The calculator converts it to pure gold, values it at the live gold price in your currency and returns the zakat due, in money and in grams of gold.
Weight (g) × purity × gold price per gram × 2.5% = zakat due
Example: Aisyah keeps 100 g of 916 (22K) gold bars. That is 91.6 g of pure gold, above the 85 g nisab. At RM560 a gram, her zakat is 91.6 × RM560 × 2.5% = RM1,282.40.
Gold kept as savings or investment, such as bars, coins and jewellery you do not wear, is zakatable in full once it reaches the nisab.
Jewellery worn for personal use is treated differently by the schools of law. The Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali schools exempt permissible jewellery worn in a customary amount, while the Hanafi school requires zakat on it. In Malaysia each state zakat authority sets a customary limit (uruf), and only worn gold above that limit is zakatable. Enter your limit as the exempt allowance, or leave it at 0 to include all worn gold.
Rulings, nisab and uruf figures differ between zakat authorities, so check with yours before you pay.
85 grams of pure gold, held for one full lunar year. The calculator values it at the live gold price, so the nisab in money moves with the market.
Zakat is based on the pure gold content. 22K (916) gold is 91.6% gold, so 100 g of 22K jewellery holds 91.6 g of pure gold. Pick the purity for each line and the calculator converts it.
It depends on your school of law and your zakat authority. Most schools exempt jewellery worn in a customary amount; the Hanafi school does not. Malaysian states set an uruf limit, and only worn gold above it is zakatable.
Yes. The result also shows the zakat as grams of pure gold. Most people pay the money equivalent instead.
