XBR/USD Overview

Brent crude oil (XBR/USD) is the international oil benchmark and the reference price for most of the crude traded around the world. It began as oil from the Brent field in the North Sea and today reflects a basket of North Sea grades, plus US WTI Midland since 2023, with futures traded on ICE Futures Europe. The XBR/USD price here tracks the front-month Brent contract. Brent reacts most to global supply risk: OPEC+ output policy, conflict in the Middle East, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, and sanctions on Russian and Iranian exports. Demand from China, India and Europe, global growth and the US dollar matter too. Brent usually trades above WTI, and traders watch the Brent-WTI spread as a gauge of global against US supply. Liquidity is deepest when London and New York overlap. On ForexR you can follow the live Brent price, use daily pivot points to frame levels, size stops with ATR and confirm trend on the multi-timeframe chart. XBR/USD — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Brent and WTI?

Both are light, sweet crudes. WTI is the US benchmark, delivered inland at Cushing, Oklahoma, while Brent is seaborne crude and the benchmark for most internationally traded oil. Brent usually trades above WTI, and the gap reflects transport costs and the balance between US and global supply.

What moves Brent crude?

OPEC+ production policy, Middle East conflict and shipping disruption, sanctions on Russian and Iranian oil, demand from China and India, global growth expectations and the US dollar. Weekly US inventory data moves Brent too, through its link to WTI.

What are the best hours to trade Brent?

From the London open through the London-New York overlap, roughly 07:00-16:30 UTC, when European and US traders are both active. Brent trades almost around the clock on weekdays, with thinner liquidity in the Asian session.
