What Is BoJ decision?

The Bank of Japan's Policy Board meets eight times a year. The decision has no fixed release time: it comes out when the meeting ends, usually around midday in Tokyo, and the Governor's press conference follows in the afternoon.

Because the timing is not known in advance, the yen can move suddenly during the Asian session on decision days.

BoJ decision FAQ

When is the next BoJ decision release?

The next BoJ decision release is scheduled for Fri 30 Oct 2026, 03:00 UTC, with a consensus estimate of 1.25%. Dates come from the economic calendar and can change.

How much does USD/JPY move after BoJ decision?

Over the last 7 releases, the typical move in USD/JPY one hour after BoJ decision was 17 pips, and 27.3 pips after four hours (median sizes, either direction). The largest one-hour move was 82.8 pips on 18 Sep 2026. Past moves are not a forecast of the next release.

What does a figure above or below the estimate mean?

The estimate is the consensus of economists' forecasts before the release. Markets price in that number, so prices react mainly to the surprise: the gap between the actual figure and the estimate, and to revisions of earlier months, rather than to whether the figure is high or low.
