Where the week leaves prices

After the New York close the evidence is split, so the bias stays neutral. EUR/USD, GBP/USD and AUD/USD finished below S1 and beyond the bottom of the pivot ladder, while USD/JPY and USD/CAD finished above R1 and beyond the top. Gold, Bitcoin, Ethereum and the Nasdaq 100 finished between S1 and the daily pivot. WTI crude finished between the daily pivot and R1. Asia trades next, until London opens at 07:00 UTC.

EUR/USD last printed 1.1139, down 0.7% on the day, with the day high at 1.12339 and the day low at 1.11302. S1 at 1.11909, the daily pivot at 1.12293 and R1 at 1.12559 all sit overhead. Five-day winners and losers

The five-day percentage changes in the table are the weekly scorecard. Gold, USD/CAD and USD/JPY are the only gainers. AUD/USD is the weakest dollar pair on that list, against gains for USD/CAD and USD/JPY, which is the split the live currency strength meter compares. WTI and the Nasdaq 100 are the large losers.

MarketFive-day change
Gold (XAU/USD)+1.11%

GBP/USD-0.2%
EUR/USD-0.35%
Ethereum (ETH/USD)-1.13%

WTI Crude Oil (XTI/USD)-12.15%

Daily trend and RSI

Daily and four-hour trends disagree on enough names to keep the read neutral. EUR/USD, AUD/USD, Bitcoin, Ethereum and the Nasdaq 100 are down on both the daily trend and the four-hour trend. GBP/USD is down on the daily trend and mixed on the four-hour trend. USD/JPY and USD/CAD are mixed on the daily trend and up on the four-hour trend. Gold is mixed on the daily trend and up on the four-hour trend. WTI is mixed on the daily trend and down on the four-hour trend.

Daily RSI is 47 for EUR/USD, 60.7 for GBP/USD, 39.2 for AUD/USD, 48.3 for USD/JPY and 45.3 for USD/CAD. Gold is at 49.7, Bitcoin at 38.1, Ethereum at 39.5, the Nasdaq 100 at 25.4 and WTI at 41.7. In this set GBP/USD has the highest daily RSI and the Nasdaq 100 the lowest. Average true range is 64.2 pips on EUR/USD, 67.9 pips on GBP/USD, 49.5 pips on AUD/USD, 93.3 pips on USD/JPY, 62.6 pips on USD/CAD, 84.43 dollars on gold, 2491.81 dollars on Bitcoin, 102.16 dollars on Ethereum, 735.12 points on the Nasdaq 100 and 4.39 dollars on WTI, beside the ATR and volatility guide.

Paths from these levels

A rebound through EUR/USD S1 at 1.11909 would put the pair back inside the pivot ladder toward the daily pivot at 1.12293. A print under the day low at 1.11302 would leave that rebound behind. GBP/USD is still under S1 at 1.34284, so the daily pivot at 1.34642 stays overhead, with the day low at 1.33417 below. AUD/USD is under S1 at 0.68929, with the day low at 0.68532 and the daily pivot at 0.69582 above.

USD/JPY is already above R1 at 158.239. A slip back under that R1 would point toward the daily pivot at 157.878, and the day high at 158.56 is the overhead print. USD/CAD is already above R1 at 1.40461, with the day high at 1.41367 overhead and S1 at 1.3965 below. For gold, a break above the day high at 4106.85 would open the way toward R1 at 4137.8, and a move back below S1 at 4048.77 would invalidate that view.

Coverage, yields and positioning

Forexcom's note on the euro and FX Street's note on gold are both taken up with a firm US payrolls release, as coverage rather than proof of a cause. FXEmpire's weekly pieces on gold and on silver both discuss high interest rates and a weaker path for those metals.

US Treasury yields at the daily close showed the three-month yield at 4.19%, the two-year yield at 4.51%, up 5 basis points, and the ten-year yield at 4.86%, up 2 basis points. The two-year versus ten-year spread was 35 basis points, with the basis-point changes measured against November 5, and those yields are context only.

As of the week to October 27, positioning in pair terms was net short EUR/USD, net short GBP/USD, net short USD/JPY and net short AUD/USD, and net long Gold (XAU/USD), net long Bitcoin (BTC/USD), net long USD/CAD, net long Nasdaq 100 (US100) and net long WTI Crude Oil (XTI/USD). The weekly shift was that speculators added to net short EUR/USD, reduced net short GBP/USD, added to net short USD/JPY, added to net short AUD/USD, reduced net long Gold (XAU/USD), added to net long Bitcoin (BTC/USD), reduced net long USD/CAD, reduced net long Nasdaq 100 (US100) and reduced net long WTI Crude Oil (XTI/USD).

Monday on the calendar

Every listed release falls on Monday. At 07:00 UTC the German seasonally adjusted trade balance is due, previous 19.5 and estimate 19.4, alongside the Eurogroup meeting, both medium impact. Sentix investor confidence is at 09:30 UTC, previous 2.7, with no estimate shown, also medium impact. Bowman speaks at 13:40 UTC, Goolsbee at 15:00 UTC and Barkin at 17:15 UTC, each medium impact, and the BoE Governor Bailey speech at 17:25 UTC is high impact. The guide to using an economic calendar is the reference for that Monday timetable, from the trade balance to Bailey.

Bottom line

The week closes neutral. Daily and four-hour trends disagree on GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CAD, gold and WTI. EUR/USD at 1.1139, GBP/USD at 1.33481 and AUD/USD at 0.68622 finished below S1, while USD/JPY at 158.485 and USD/CAD at 1.41276 finished above R1. Over five days gold is up 1.11%, WTI is down 12.15% and the Nasdaq 100 is down 7.17%, and Bitcoin and Ethereum are lower with both trends down. Monday's euro data and speeches are on the schedule, and they do not by themselves decide the next print.
