One third of the trade closes at each target, and the stop moves to the entry after target 1.
This is a mechanical short trade on Gold (XAU/USD) triggered by an EMA 9/21 scalper strategy. The 5-minute rule fires when the 9-period EMA crosses below the 21-period EMA while the price is below the 200-period EMA, which occurred at 4046.41 and 4046.60 respectively. XAU/USD is trading around 4043, down 1.11% on the day, with the daily trend pointing down. The strategy has a tested negative return of -0.02R per trade on gold. The stop loss is at 4050.92, placed safely above the daily S1 resistance level at 4048.77, with an initial target of 4035.96.
ChartPrice structure on the chart: trend, levels, volatility.
The most common scalping setup: on 5-minute bars, buy at market when the 9 EMA crosses above the 21 EMA while price is above the 200 EMA, and sell on the mirror image. London and New York hours only (07:00 to 20:00 UTC, weekdays), at most six a day per instrument. Stop 1.5 ATR (5-minute), targets 1R, 2R and 3R; the rest closes when the EMAs cross back, or after two hours.
Caveat: One year only (the price feed keeps a year of 5-minute bars): -0.03R per trade over 1,814 trades, gold -0.02R, Nasdaq 100 -0.04R. On EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY and Bitcoin the same rule lost 0.17 to 0.20R a trade, because a 5-minute stop is only a few spreads wide, so it is not run there; that choice was made on the same data.
The idea, explained: Forex scalping
The short trade expected XAUUSD to continue its intraday downtrend following a 5-minute bearish EMA crossover. Instead, price reversed almost immediately and surged to the stop loss.
This is a mechanical short trade on Gold (XAU/USD) triggered by an EMA 9/21 scalper strategy.
Filled short at 4043.66 at 07:36 UTC, price managed a brief favorable excursion to 4041.78 (0.205R) during the entry bar. It quickly reversed course, climbing steadily over the next three 5-minute bars. This rally breached the daily S1 resistance level at 4048.77 and triggered the stop loss at 4050.92 during the 07:50 UTC bar, closing the trade at 07:51 UTC.
The strategy relied on short-term bearish momentum and holding below the daily S1 resistance. By the close, the price had surged above S1 and the fast EMAs, entirely negating the momentum that triggered the entry.
Lesson: No clear lesson: the setup was valid and the stop was hit by normal volatility.

Scalping trade: moves are quick, and the spread takes a bigger share of a small stop.
No high-impact release was due while the order waits or in its first 4 hours.
The spread is a small share of the stop distance (under 10%).
High Risk means at least one check flagged this trade. Size it smaller, or skip it if you only follow Cautious signals. This signal was published before risk tags existed; its tag was added afterwards, from the facts at its publish time.
The mechanical strategy has a negative tested expectancy, though the stop loss is logically placed above daily resistance.
