Forex trading in Taiwan
Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) treats foreign-currency margin trading as futures trading, to be done through FSC-licensed leverage transaction merchants attached to domestic futures firms. None of the 20 brokers in our broker comparison holds that licence, so each of them serves Taiwan residents from an entity licensed outside Taiwan. The Taiwanese futures firms further down come from our wider directory and have not been verified. We rank the 11 whose own pages indicate that Taiwan residents are accepted; KCM Trade, our Editor's choice, is ranked first.
Saxo and XTB exclude Taiwan. For seven more, acceptance rests on conflicting or secondary sources, so they are listed further down as not verified; eToro, Swissquote and IG are also named in the official warning zone for operators not approved by the FSC.
Is forex trading legal in Taiwan?
Leveraged forex is legal in Taiwan when done through a licensed operator. The FSC treats foreign-currency margin trading as futures trading under the Futures Trading Act, and since the July 2012 Regulations Governing Leverage Transaction Merchants those operators are leverage transaction merchants attached to local futures firms; a March 2024 secondary source names Yuanta, Capital, KGI, Cathay and Fubon Futures. None of the overseas brokers compared here holds an FSC licence.
The FSC notices we reviewed are addressed to unlicensed operators and state no penalty for an individual trader. They warn that clients of unapproved operators often have no recourse in a dispute and that Taiwan's consumer protection mechanism, including the Securities Investor and Futures Trader Protection Act and the Financial Consumer Protection Act, will not apply to unapproved overseas platforms; they advise refusing such services and not remitting funds to them. In plain terms, the FSC cannot help a resident recover money from an offshore broker.
Unapproved operators are published in an official warning zone run with the securities, futures and SITCA industry associations. Of its 376 entries at 21 September 2026, three match our comparison: eToro (8 August 2023, then 30 August 2023 by the FSC and 2 January 2024 by TAIFEX), Swissquote (8 August 2023) and IG International Ltd (8 August 2023), the last two for soliciting Taiwan investors in Traditional Chinese. The list says it may not be exhaustive. See our guide to forex scams.
Deposits and withdrawals in Taiwan
No broker-published TWD local bank transfer rail was verified for any of the 20 brokers. Brokers say available methods depend on the registered country and appear only inside the client area, so funding is in a foreign currency:
- International bank wire in USD.
- Credit or debit card.
- E-wallets such as Skrill and Neteller.
- Crypto, for example USDT.
- PayPal, which eToro lists for Taiwan after a first deposit; eToro is listed here as not verified.
Tickmill is the one ranked broker whose Taiwan page spells out the rails: bank transfer, cards, crypto, Skrill, Neteller or UnionPay, in USD, EUR, GBP or ZAR only. Funding a USD account from a TWD bank account means a conversion each way; the currency converter shows the current rate. The FSC's warning entries advise against remitting funds to unapproved operators.
How to choose a forex broker in Taiwan
After KCM Trade, the ranking orders brokers by depth of tier-1 regulation in the group (FCA, ASIC, CySEC, MAS, CFTC/NFA, FINMA, BaFin), then Traditional Chinese site or support, then minimum deposit and EUR/USD spread. None meets our first criterion, a local licence, and none has a confirmed TWD funding method. Our guide on how to choose a forex broker goes further.
- Which entity holds the account. The Traditional Chinese sites are run by offshore units: Pepperstone Markets Limited (Bahamas SCB), Raw Trading Ltd (Seychelles FSA) for IC, First Prudential Markets Limited (Seychelles) for FP Markets, and OANDA Global Markets (BVI). A group's FCA or ASIC licence does not cover an account held there.
- Regulation held elsewhere. OANDA, Interactive Brokers and Pepperstone each count four tier-1 licences in the group.
- Cost. Raw accounts quote EUR/USD from 0.0 pips plus $6 to $7 per round turn; OANDA's core pricing is 0.1 pips plus $10, and spread-only accounts run from 0.6 pips (KCM Trade) to 0.9 pips (AvaTrade). See spreads and pips and the spread cost calculator.
- Leverage. Headline leverage runs from 1:50 (Interactive Brokers) to 1:5000 (IC) and depends on the entity holding the account; see leverage and margin.
How we rank brokers for Taiwan
After KCM Trade, our Editor's choice, brokers are placed by the same checks, in this order: a licence from the local regulator where Taiwan issues one and the licensed entity is the one that serves local clients, depth of regulation (tier-1 and offshore licences both count), funding methods that work from Taiwan, a local-language site or support desk, the cost of getting started (minimum deposit and typical spread), and swap-free accounts where traders commonly ask for them. The order is an editorial judgement, not a computed score.
An (i) after a broker's description means it is named on the Taiwan FSC list of unapproved overseas operators (source). The note records what the local regulator has published; it is not a finding of fraud, and it is removed when the entry is. Weigh it alongside the licences the broker holds.
Apart from KCM Trade, a broker is ranked among the verified brokers only when we could confirm, from its own website or the local regulator's register, that it opens accounts for residents of Taiwan. KCM Trade's availability in Taiwan was checked the same way. The 58 brokers marked Not verified follow them: we could not confirm from their own websites that they accept residents of Taiwan, most come from our wider broker directory, and their figures are indicative until we check them. Spreads, deposits and leverage are the same figures shown on our full broker comparison; leverage and protections depend on which of the broker's entities holds your account. Brokers we did not rank for Taiwan
- SaxoSaxo's published list of serviced countries does not include Taiwan.
- XTBFrom March 2026 XTB International accepts residents of a closed list of countries only, and Taiwan is not on it.
Data last reviewed: September 2026. Availability, funding methods and rules change; confirm them on the broker's own website and with FSC before you open an account.
