Forex trading in Indonesia
Indonesia is one of the few countries here where a forex broker can hold a local licence. Forex and CFD contracts are offered by licensed futures brokers (pialang berjangka), supervised until 2025 by Bappebti under the Ministry of Trade. On 10 January 2025 that supervision moved: OJK now oversees derivatives with securities underlyings, such as stock indices, and Bank Indonesia oversees money-market and foreign exchange derivatives. Bappebti keeps commodity futures, domain blocking and the Cek Legalitas licence check.
Two brokers in our broker comparison run licensed Indonesian entities, PT Plus500 Indonesia Futures and PT XTB Indonesia Berjangka; nine more serve Indonesians from offshore. KCM Trade, our Editor's choice, is ranked first; it is licensed by ASIC and the Mauritius FSC. Saxo, CMC Markets and eToro do not accept Indonesians; IG, FOREX.com, FP Markets, Swissquote and Admirals are too weakly sourced to confirm and are listed further down as not verified.
Is forex trading legal in Indonesia?
Yes, through a licensed futures broker. Offshore brokers hold no Indonesian licence, and Bappebti has repeatedly had their domains blocked, 1,222 sites in 2021 alone. A resident who trades with one has no local dispute resolution and may find the site blocked.
- Locally licensed: PT Plus500 Indonesia Futures (Bappebti licence 587/BAPPEBTI/SI/XII/2004, OJK approval S-341/PM.02/2025, Bank Indonesia; JFX and ICDX member) and PT XTB Indonesia Berjangka (formerly PT Rajawali Kapital Berjangka; Bappebti, OJK and BI). Plus500 offers forex pairs; at XTB Indonesia we confirmed US stocks, ETFs and commodity CFDs, not forex.
- Blocked in 2021: Kompas reported XM, Exness, FxPro and Swissquote among 100 sites blocked in March 2021; DDTC News listed XM, Exness, eToro and IC Markets-branded domains among 249 blocked in August 2021, many of them affiliate or clone domains.
- Not checked: blocking rounds from 2022 to 2026, so absence here is not a clean bill of health.
Check any claimed Indonesian licence on Bappebti's Cek Legalitas register. See our guide to forex scams.
Deposits and withdrawals in Indonesia
The common Indonesian rails are bank transfer or virtual account through BCA, Mandiri, BNI or BRI, QRIS, the OVO, DANA and GoPay wallets, and FasaPay. Per-broker confirmation was thin.
- Plus500 Indonesia trades in rupiah with an IDR 1 million minimum; we did not confirm its local channels.
- FxPro states on its own site that Indonesians can open IDR accounts funded by local bank transfer or online payment services.
- XM is reported to support IDR bank transfer through BCA, Mandiri, BNI and BRI; the source is secondary and xm.com does not confirm it.
- AvaTrade accepts Indonesian credit cards with extra verification, per its help centre.
- IC Markets and Tickmill show no Indonesia-specific method; Exness and KCM Trade could not be verified.
No ranked broker confirmed QRIS, OVO, DANA or GoPay. Where the account is in US dollars, rupiah is converted both ways; the currency converter shows the market rate.
How to choose a forex broker in Indonesia
After KCM Trade, the two locally licensed brokers rank first, Plus500 ahead of XTB because its forex offer is confirmed and its group holds more tier-1 licences. Offshore brokers follow by depth of tier-1 regulation (FCA, ASIC, CySEC, MAS, CFTC/NFA, FINMA, BaFin), then confirmed rupiah funding, Bahasa Indonesia support, entry cost and swap-free availability; brokers blocked in 2021 stay in with a dated note. See our guide on how to choose a forex broker.
- Licence. Only Plus500 Indonesia and XTB Indonesia sit inside the OJK, Bank Indonesia and Bappebti regime; with every other broker here, no Indonesian authority can hear a dispute or recover money.
- Swap-free. Indonesia is on Pepperstone's eligible list, XM offers Islamic accounts on all account types, and IC Markets, Tickmill, AvaTrade and FxPro advertise them. KCM Trade grants swap-free on trading-style criteria.
- Cost. Minimum deposits run from $0 at Interactive Brokers, OANDA and IC Markets, and IDR 1 million at Plus500 Indonesia, to $1,000 at KCM Trade. The spread cost calculator compares spreads. Offshore leverage runs from 1:50 to 1:5000 (see leverage and margin); we could not confirm the licensed entities' leverage.
How we rank brokers for Indonesia
After KCM Trade, our Editor's choice, brokers are placed by the same checks, in this order: a licence from the local regulator where Indonesia issues one and the licensed entity is the one that serves local clients, depth of regulation (tier-1 and offshore licences both count), funding methods that work from Indonesia, a local-language site or support desk, the cost of getting started (minimum deposit and typical spread), and swap-free accounts where traders commonly ask for them. The order is an editorial judgement, not a computed score.
An (i) after a broker's description means it is named on the Bappebti list of blocked trading sites (2021, as reported by Kompas) (source). The note records what the local regulator has published; it is not a finding of fraud, and it is removed when the entry is. Weigh it alongside the licences the broker holds.
Apart from KCM Trade, a broker is ranked among the verified brokers only when we could confirm, from its own website or the local regulator's register, that it opens accounts for residents of Indonesia. KCM Trade's availability in Indonesia was confirmed to us by KCM Trade and not independently verified from its website. The 5 brokers marked Not verified follow them: we could not confirm from their own websites that they accept residents of Indonesia, most come from our wider broker directory, and their figures are indicative until we check them. Spreads, deposits and leverage are the same figures shown on our full broker comparison; leverage and protections depend on which of the broker's entities holds your account. Broker links may be partner links that earn ForexR a commission at no extra cost to you.
Brokers we did not rank for Indonesia
- CMC MarketsBrokerChooser states CMC Markets does not accept clients from Indonesia; we could not confirm this on CMC's own site.
- SaxoIndonesia is not on Saxo's published list of serviced countries.
- eToroSecondary sources citing eToro's unsupported-countries article say eToro is unavailable to Indonesian residents, and eToro-branded domains were on Bappebti's August 2021 block list.
Data last reviewed: September 2026. Availability, funding methods and rules change; confirm them on the broker's own website and with Bappebti before you open an account.
